Defining Personalized Travel to Belize since 1988

Though Hopkins picturesque beaches have sparked much interest in resort development, the village still retains a relaxed and family-friendly feel ...

Hopkins is a small, vibrant Garifuna community that stretches along a two-mile strip of beach surrounded by the Maya Mountains and the Cockscomb Range inland, and the Caribbean Sea on its shore. The approximately 1,000 villagers live mostly by farming and fishing and more recently many have found work in the growing tourism industry.

Map of BelizeHopkins Garifuna are a distinct ethnic group emanating from the intermingling of West African slaves and indigenous Amerindians from South America. The Garifuna are known for their friendliness and genuine hospitality, and welcome visitors to their village. Hopkins was recently voted "The Friendliest Village in Belize" by Belize First Magazine and nearly everyone in the village speaks English. Hopkins has a selection of gift shops, restaurants and small bars which are popular with guests.

Hopkins is located 10 miles south along the coast and 25 miles by road from Dangriga.
