Howler monkeys, orchids, crocodiles, toucans, parrots,
manatees and dolphins are just some of the tropical flora
and fauna that might be just around the next bend.
Cockscomb Basin Wildlife
Sanctuary is said to have the densest population
of jaguars in existence. The sanctuary lies in a 100,000
acre
expanse of forest rimmed on three sides by mountainous
ridges. The basin has numerous trails offering adventurous
hikes,
waterfalls, canoeing, tubing and bird watching. Tubing
down the Cockscomb River is a favorite activity in
the afternoon.
Monkey River Tours promises sightings of howler monkeys, iguanas, exotic birds
and lots of tropical fauna. Monkey River Town is located
about 12 miles south of Placencia at the mouth of the
Monkey
River.

sources, brightly colored Scarlet Macaws will make the
village of Redbank and
the
surrounding
mountains
and river areas...their home for 2 to 3 months of the year...as
they journey on their migratory route through Belize. They can be seen
flying in formations of 30 or 40 at a time.

formations, rushing clear waters and tumbling falls...is
an added delight to take in...as you watch for the colorful
Macaw.
